Welcome to the Central Southwest Region!

Denise Feeney is happy to join the NH Connections team as the Central Southwest Facilitator. My background is that of a parent, an educator and a concerned community member. It is with all three hats that I look forward to working with fellow educators, parents, administrators, para-professionals, community members and students as we move forward together to promote family-school partnerships in special education. We can do this though our joint collaborations, building relationships and learning from each other.
I am planning many activities throughout the year, but I can’t do it alone! Improving family-school partnership in special education is a joint endeavor and the more of us who come together with this common vision, the more effective the results will be. I challenge all of you who are reading this, think about one idea, one resource, one method you can share and email me and I will post it on the NH Connections regional page of the website. What a strong beginning that will be!

NH Connections Parent Leadership in Special Education Training scheduled in February in Exeter
Why Leadership in Special Education? Why You?
As parents you are the leaders in your family. You have unique experiences, and expertise that others can benefit from. You can develop your skills to become a stronger more effective voice with a wider and more direct influence on issues that matter to you. You can bring people together to build and sustain support and resources in your community. You will grow beyond your family struggles and emerge as a spearhead of action, a leader who inspires others to do the same.
Why train parents?
Many parents of children with disabilities want to become more involved in school improvement initiatives. But in order for parents to successfully participate as members of these partnership teams, they need to understand the overall special education system and how to successfully work with school district personnel. The New Hampshire Connections project is excited to offer the Parent Leadership in Special Education Training (PLinSET). This training is designed to develop and utilize the partnership skills of parents of children with disabilities so that they may assume leadership positions in parent support groups, in school improvement activities and to support school personnel.
