News for the Region
During the summer of 2010, NH Connections will be redesigning the Regional Forum and meeting structure to better assist School Districts and parents involved in promoting partnerships and parent/family engagement in Special Education.
In the 2010 - 2011 school year we would like to build from a forum and have three very useful collaborative sessions to learn what is working with School Districts and parents and how we can learn from all that are involved. These may be held in different locations in the region.
The Regional Support Network held a world cafe' forum on Parent Involvement in Special Education on January 28, 2010. The forum results identified three priority areas.
1. Collaborate together to build true partnerships.
2. Parents and teachers are partners, and they are available as a resource
for each other's involvement in the child’s education.
3. Two way communication is used among and between parents,
educators, school administrators, and others while addressing
effective communication skills.

Action planning meetings are scheduled for March 4 and April 15th, 6-PM in room 402 at Memorial High School, 1 Crusader Way, Manchester.
Improving Response Rates for the Parent Involvement Survey
To improve the response rate results of the Parent Involvement Survey, schools and school district personnel can call parents to remind them to complete and return the survey, display posters, email parents, advertise the survey on school and district websites, and notify parents in newsletters of the parent involvement survey in March. School districts would like more parents to complete the surveys by mail or online to get a better picture of parent involvement in special education in every district. Visit the Parent Involvement in Special Education page on the NH Connections website for additional strategies.
