Issue Brief - February 2010
Parent Involvement in Special Education - what does it mean to the South Central Region? A forum was held in January 2010 where parents, educators, school administrators, and community service providers talked about what is happening now in their local schools around parent involvement, what their vision of ideal parent involvement is, and what barriers or challenges exist to reach the vision. The South Central Regional Support Network identified three priorities to now address by creating and implementing action plans.Read the Issue Brief on the South Central Parent Involvement in Special Education forum.

As parent involvement in a child's education is important to the child's success, so is parent involvement in the school system for support to the individuals who work in the district and to the parents of the children who attend the schools. Parent leaders can support a district by collaborating among parents and educators, supporting the school district at school board meetings, and by being available as a resource to teachers and administrators. A parent can have a positive impact in their district after they receive training.
In this Enews, learn the scope of concepts and strategies that the Parent Leadership Series will provide to the participants, those parents who have children with disabilities and educators who work with parents and want to learn more about leadership skills and parent involvement.
NH Connections offers this training one time in each of the 5 regions in NH and the series is free of charge. Each training is in collaboration with school districts and the special education administration office.
